Prince Of Wales , 137 Solebay street, Mile End E3

Mile End Pubs history

The 1884 directory and many earlier directories refer this as the Prince of Wales, Regent street; as does the 1849 license transfer. In 1848 and 1851, Isaac Ramsey is listed at the Prince of Wales, South Grove, Mile End which I am presuming is the same address. The 1882 directory confirms this is at the junction with Maplin street which is the new name for Regent street at some time after 1871. Bridge Street is renamed Solebay Street between 1938 and 1944, the new address becoming 137 Solebay Street. The address is also given as South Grove in the 1871 and 1851 census returns. *
