The True British Sailor on Church Street (renamed from New Church Street) was apparently there in a will of John Sanders, Victualler, in 1844.  The Last Will & Testament of John Sanders of the Public House called the True British Sailor situated in New Church Street, St. Marylebone. I appoint John Homer of the Gloucester Arms Public House, Mason Street, Old Kent Road and my wife Mary Ann Sanders Executors of this my last will and testament. *

It appears from his will that John Homer was actually running the True British Sailor at the time of writing. John Sanders who ran the True British Sailor was Thomas’ son & took over this pub from John Homer. He married the servant Mary Ann Thornton.
After John Sander’s death in 1844, aged 29, Mary Ann married in 1846 another victualler Thomas Ashwell of the Black Dog, Shoe Lane, St. Brides, London where she died in 1949 aged 29! *
