I used to go to this pub often in the 1970's. The landlord at the time was
Ron Reader a former boxer with a broken nose. He had pictures of racehorses
all over the wall. A regular at the pub was Jack Young a great character and
ex england cricketer who would tell the same story about how he nearly
bowled out Don Bradman. On one occasion I overheard the Landlord on the
phone arranging for a jockey to come to the pub the next day. I took the day
off college and arrived at the pub for lunch to find the jockey, Greville
Starkey and actor Trevor Howard at the bar (his wife had gone to the west
end shopping for the afternoon) and the next couple of hours was spent
chatting to the two greats of turf and screen. It was an exciting pub to drink in with a great landlord and punters, sadly missed. *
