The pub has links to Alfred Hitchcock as his sister (Ellen Kathleen
Hitchcock) married Harry Lee's son (also named Harry), and she appears to
have lived there from 1915 until 1930. Father Harry died in 1918 and Ellen's
Harry died of colon cancer in 1924 aged 31, by which time they'd had two
sons, (Harry also appears to have had links to the White Hart on Hooper
Street, Whitechapel). She later had an affair with one of the married barmen
at the Copenhagen (Albert Edward Ingram) and gave birth to his child out of
wedlock. *
The Hitchcocks lived 4 doors up at 175 Salmon Lane and it seems likely
Alfred's father William drank away the profits of the family business (he
died in 1914 without leaving any sizeable assets), so presumably the
Copenhagen was his local. *
