My Grandmother ran the 'Bricks' for many years. My father (1931 to 2015) and
his siblings lived there as children when not at boarding school.
Nanna seems to have run the pub from sometime around the war years until
1968. We grandchildren used to go there for Christmas and so forth whilst
living in UK. I recall the 'Bricks' all decked out in Union Jack bunting
when we returned from three years in the West Indies (1963) and leaving for
Australia from the 'Bricks' in 1966. On a holiday back to UK in 1969, Nanna
had not long turned the pub over to new occupants. *
Nanna aka Dorothy (Dolly)LUMSDEN was in residence from pre 1950 (exact year unsure but I believe circa 1940) until 1967/68.
I returned to the 'Bricks' during a holiday in 1977 and my brother dropped
in during a holiday in 2010. As ex Police we both have an eye for details
and agreed that the pub has changed little from the '50's and '60's. Our
father also visited on various trips through the '80s. '90's, '00's and
'10's. He used to assist with running and lived at the 'Bricks' during his
childhood up until the first few years of his marriage to Mum. *
