Good Intent, 52 Wedmore street N19

Islington index

The address is John Street in 1871 and earlier, prior to street renaming. It is named in the 1871 census (and still existed until it was closed and demolished in 2014). *

In the two photos of the Good Intent, Wedmore Street at the corner of Eaton Grove. The first is from 1972 and shows the pub shortly before it and the surrounding streets were demolished to create the Whittington Park  as part of Patrick Abercrombie's Greater London Plan, to create more green spaces in urban areas.
The pub was rebuilt on the same site and the second photo shows it in 2013, surrounded by the park, shortly before it was finally closed. It had been renamed the Smokehouse in the 1980s but reverted to its original name by the mid 1990s, It was known to locals as the GI. A block of six houses has now been built on the site. *+
