John Caswell is my great, great, great, grandfather. I thought you might
like to add a former address, being at Butt Lane, which later became
Deptford High Street. *
John Caswell was married at St Paul’s Deptford in 1787. The registration of
his children’s baptisms, at St Paul’s Deptford from 1788 to 1804, state that
he was a victualler of Butt Lane, Deptford. *
In 1798, John Caswell was assessed for Land Tax as an occupier of a property
owned by James Frank at Butt Lane West side. (Source: The National Archives;
Kew, Richmond; Surrey, Land Tax Redemption Office: Quotas and Assessments,
IR23; Piece: 37, Volume : 3. Accessed through ancestry.com. UK, Land Tax
Redemption, 1798.). *
In Holden's Triennial Directory, 1805, 1806, 1807, John Caswell is listed at the Red Lion and Wheatsheaf, Butt Lane, Deptford. *
