Deptford Index
The pub name was the Ship and Sailor up to the 1861 census, though an issue of the London Gazette from 1857 mentions the name change, so this may have taken place when the street was renamed. It is listed as the Ship and Sailor, Effingham Place in the 1851 license transfer; and the Princess Royal, Effingham place in the 1857 license transfer. The street number is given variously as 35 Regent Street in the 1895 Directory , as 31 Regent Street in the 1891 census, 13 Regent Street in 1881, 8 Regent Street in 1871, and 27 Regent Street in 1861. It is listed as Effingham Place in 1851 and earlier, prior to street renaming. Additionally, the 1851 census entry uses the name the White Horse, but this may be an error. *
