In  the 1841 census, John Goodman is a beer seller living in Great Sutton street, Clerkenwell, aged 55. His wife Rebecca Goodman is aged 35. The 1851 census lists them of similar ages, and paupers in Clerkenwell; and born in Waltham Abbey. By 1861, Rebecca is several years older than him, he is listed as a former coachman.
