St Clement Danes pub history index
This appears to be earlier named the Coal Hole Tavern before the 1871 census, The pub appears to go through a very quick name change in 1868 to the Herbert Tavern and Hotel. The early masonic lodges, the Union Lodge of Freedom and Ease met here in about 1735, as recorded in their 1813 list.
