In the 1861 census my ancestor T.  Auger was operating the Horse and Groom and my great grandmother was bar maid. Prior to this, he was a grocer in Rayleigh, Essex in 1851. Theodore W. Auger was born in 1813, the son of John Auger and Lavinia Sweeting of Burnham on crouch. John auger was a oyster merchant and he married Ann from Lambeth, London - they had no children.  In 1841, he is a cheesemonger in London, and by 1851 a grocer in Rayleigh, Essex. By 1871 he is a joiner, living at Bromley, St Leonards. ***
