My father, Norman Cockerton, was born in 1922, and the address on his birth certificate is given as 126 Bow Road, Bromley. This was a pub called The Bird In Hand, [which I believe was owned by Trumans but has now been demolished], this fits with the birth certificate as his father, Albert Richard Cockerton, is described as a Licensed Victualler. *+

My husband's grandparents used to own it during the sixties and seventies.
The pub was run by Arnoldus Van der Heiden and his second wife, Ivy Gladys
Lawford, whom he married in 1959. I think Van's sister Josie took over from
Van at some time. Van was the son of a Dutch gin distiller - William Van der
Heiden. ***
