The Crown is of particular interest; my mother and father took over from
Alec Macfarlane on 25th August 1958. There they stayed until May 9th
1963 when they moved to the
Swiss Cottage
in Forest Hill (at 149 Stanstead Road). Then in July 1965 we all moved
to the Mulberry
Tree in Margate before running the
Bricklayers Arms in
Best Lane, Canterbury (20/3/68 - 20/12/68). My late father, an insurance
broker by profession, decided to take a 10 year break from that and go
into the licensed trade. One could do such a thing in those days. The
family decided to go back to a private house in 1968. *
