John and Martha Zimmer were my great grandparents. The information  from the 1891 census is mostly correct, except that Alice and Albert were not their children; most likely they were employed in helping to run the pub and look after their young son and daughters. I think the census enumerator made a mistake and simply inserted a ditto under the Zimmer surname and failed to collect their correct surnames. ***

John and Martha were married in 1883 and had three children (John, Gertrude and Amy - Amy is my grandmother) before he died in 1890. The P.O. Directory information about John Sr was probably obtained in 1890 for publication in 1891, but strictly speaking Martha was then the beer retailer. ***
