Van Tromp, 121 Bethnal Green Road, Bethnal Green E2

Bethnal Green pub history index

Existed from at least 1788. The address is given as Cock Lane in the 1788 Sun Fire Office insurance record, an earlier name for the street. The modern address for the Van Tromp was originally 53 Church Street before being incorporated into Bethnal Green Road, prior to 1881. It was re-named 'Lyons Corner' in 1986 and closed in 1990. Premises now occupied by an estate agents and other businesses. ** The address is given as Cock Lane in the 1788 Sun Fire Office insurance record, an earlier name for the street. *

NB note name is almost always given as "Van Tromp", not "Von Tromp" so the latter is presumably a typo - actually this is because I always wonder how to spell this correctly! *
