College Arms, 99 Old Bethnal Green Road, Bethnal Green E2

Bethnal Green pub history index

Existed from at least 1834. The College Arms, Goulden place in the 1853, 1859 and 1874 license transfers. Near to St Judes Church in the 1856 directory, and near to 22 Old Bethnal Green Road before road renumbering. This pub is now demolished. ** Sun Fire Office insurance records of 1834 and 1835 refer to a Gouldens Arms on Bethnal Green Old Road, and there's an 1836 record for a Golden Arms on Hope Street (which is the intersecting street, later Treadway Street). This fact, and its address as Goulden Place in license transfers (and 10 Golden Place in the 1861 census, where it is also named as the College Arms), suggests it may be referring to the same pub. *
