A few relatives have mentioned that my great grandmother and great grand father ran a pub in the east end of London , none of them could remember the name or location. I have located them in the 1901 census – Hester Bowtell , married to Arthur Bowtell (listed as a licensed victualler) , the pub is called the Blue Lion and was in Ames street Bethnal green.
This road no longer exists it is now covered by the Cranbrook estate , the closest street that exists is Bonner Street London E2. ***
Ames Street is still listed in 1944, but no reference to the Pub exists either then or in 1938
