My ancestor George Farrington b.1796, was landlord of 'The Black Dog' in 1842, he died there in that year. Reference : City of London Burial Records. ***

Family legend says George Farrington died falling down the cellar steps but when I got his death certificate, it said he died of consumption! My grandmother, Florence Farrington,(born 1852 - 1916) was daughter of George Henry Farrington (born 1828), stationer, who was the son of the George Farrington who was left the Black Dog by a relative. She married an Italian - surname Bayon in 1872. Family legend says George inherited the Black Dog from a relative but I have not been able to find out who owned the pub before him. Also there is a story that they were Huguenot weavers. Two of his brothers definitely were weavers on the 1841 census - Ebenezer and Edward. The family legend says George Henry Farrington (I think he was a printer) b.1828 -d. 1910 became a Quaker. *
