John Pidgeon was born in 1858 at Ashburton, Devon. As a young lad he worked as a farmer�s labourer, but later became a tanner�s labourer. In 1884 he married Rosina Jane Farleigh, and they immediately left Devon and came to London. They initially lived at the Roebuck in Brady Street, Whitechapel which was run by John�s sister Charlotte and her husband William Bennett. *
