Rose & Lily, 155 Drummond Road, Bermondsey SE16
Residents at this address.
The Rose & Lily 155 Drummond Road, Bermondsey was, in 1869 owned by my great grandfather John Harrison. I have the deeds - whether he actually ran the pub I don't know. Eliza Thomas - who he later married - might have been associated with the pub. She is described
as a Licensed Victualler in the 1861 census, at the Holly Tree ***
The earliest document I have concerning the Rose and Lily states that on
April 9th 1963 JH took a lease for the pub (155 Drummond Road on the east
side and on the corner of Layard Road) paying 550. The document describes
JH as a builder and in occupation of the property. The second and final
document I have concerning the pub is dated 27October 1869 where JH is
described as a licensed victualler (as above). In all I have four documents
- the others concern other properties in Drummond Road including an oil shop and butchers shop. ***
