My grandfather George Osborn, was the landlord at the Prince Alfred, at the time of the 1901 census. **
My father, Alfred Ernest Osborn was born here in July 1901.
I don’t know when he took over the licence, but I believe he was still there in December 1905 when his wife died.

FUNERAL OF THE LATE MISS A. E. **
Manifold tokens of widespread esteem, affection, and regard marked the obsequies on Thursday week of the late Miss Annie Elizabeth Osborn, eldest daughter of Mr. George Osborn, of the Prince Alfred, Alscot-road, Bermondsey, who died in Guy’s Hospital at the early age of 19 years, from injuries received through being knocked down and run over by a brewer’s dray whilst cycling in the Fort-road, Bermondsey.
The cortege left the deceased’s residence at 2.30 p.m. for Nunhead Cemetery, where the internment took place, the body, which was enclosed in a coffin of polished oak, with massive brass mountings, being born in a glass-panelled hearse, fitted with silent tires and drawn by four horses.
The principal mourners were Mr. and Mrs. Osborn (deceased’s father and mother), Messrs George, James, and Henry Osborn (brothers), and Miss Nellie Osborn (sister) first carriage; Mrs. G. Osborn (sister-in-law), the Misses Clara, Lizzie and Ada Osborn (sisters), Mr. Charles Osborn (brother), and Mr Arthur Blackman (to who the deceased was engaged), second carriage; Mr. and Mrs. William Clayton, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Clayton (uncles and aunts), third carriage; Mr Henry Osborn (uncle) and Mrs. Osborn and three members of the staff at the Prince Alfred, fourth carriage.
A number of private carriages followed containing the leading local tradesmen and licensed victuallers, whilst large crowds assembled in Alscot-road and at the cemetery to pay a last tribute of respect to the memory of the deceased, who had endeared herself to all with whom she came in contact. Amongst the handsome floral tributes, which numbered 87, and which necessitated a second hearse being requisitioned to convey them to Nunhead, were wreaths from the deceased’s parents, brother and sisters, and other relatives; Mr. and Mrs Chuter, of the Queen’s Head, Fendall-street; Mr. John Hart, proprietor, and Mr. A. Rowells, manager, of the Star Music Hall; Mr. and Mrs. Grontage , of the Royal Fort, Grange-road; Mr. and Mrs. Clapperton, of the Fleece, Abbey-street; Mr. and Mrs. Warner, of Bermondsey-street; Mr. Raper, vice-president Bermondsey Gladstone Club; the Prince Alfred Cycling Club, Mr. Fred Pretty, the Bermondsey Labourer’s Union, the staff at the Prince Alfred, and the Shepherd’s Pride Slate Club, and an exquisitely pretty wreath subscribed to by the poor children of the neighbourhood, with whom the deceased young lady was very popular. Numerous letters of condolence, including one from the South-East District Licensed Victuallers’ Association, have been received by the deceased’s parents, and these Mr. and Mrs. Osborn desire to gratefully acknowledge through these columns. The funeral arrangements, which were on a most elaborate scale, were entrusted to Mr. A. W. Simpson, the well-known undertaker, of East-street, Walworth, and were most satisfactorily carried out.
