In 1768, the Lodge of Sincerity Masonic Lodge is meeting here according to the 1813 list of Masonic Lodges.
Existed from at least 1790; the Jamaica House, Rotherhithe street, Bermondsey. The address is Little Cherry Garden Street in 1848, 1851 and 1856 directories. The name is given as the Jamaica House on Cherry Garden Street in Sun Fire Office insurance records (as well as Island House in 1792/1793, which is presumably the same pub); by 1869 Jamaica Level is part of Blue Anchor Road; aka New Jamaica in 1881. This whole area was razed in the 1950s or 1960s. *

I have three quite good pictures of The Jamaica Tavern, Southwark Park
Road (which was a Courage House). My great-grandfather was landlord circa
1871 - 1895 or so. Looking over my family tree I have so far found to my
considerable surprise, various male and female ancestors were also licensees
of:-
Duke of Edinburgh, Forsyth St Rotherhithe ; The Ship 171 Kennington Road ;
Waterman's Arms, Barnham St Southwark ; The Rose, 22 Russell St Bermondsey ;
The Hope Inn, Homesdale Centre Lewisham ; Abbey Arms, Abbey Wood ;
Prince of
Wales, 53 High St Highgate and the White Lion, Portsmouth Rd Cobham.
