The Excise Tavern existed from at least 1805. The 1851 census is in the parish of St Peter le Poor. Formerly Excise Coffee House. Addresses formerly 48 and 56 Old Broad Street. This pub survived until at least 1964 but is now demolished. **
By 1900 this is the Winchester House restaurant, with Winchester House next to it and at 50 Old Broad street.
