Kings and Queens of England - Egbert, of the House of Wessex to Stephen of Blois, 802 to 1154.
- Egbert, 802 to 839. King of Wessex who established dominance over other Anglo-Saxon kingdoms. Often considered the first king to rule over a relatively unified England.
- Aethelwulf, 839 to 858. Son of Egbert. Known for his piety and for dealing with increasing Viking raids.
- Aethelbald, 858 to 860. Son of Æthelwulf. Controversially married his stepmother Judith (daughter of Charles the Bald of West Francia).
- Aethelberht, 860 to 866. Brother of Æthelbald. His reign also saw continued Viking incursions.
- Aethelred, 866 to 871. Brother of Æthelbald and Æthelberht. Faced a major Viking invasion by the Great Heathen Army.
- Alfred the Great is the King of Wessex from 871 to 899. He was the son of Aethelwulf of Wessex, and the Brother of Æthelred I. A pivotal figure who defended Wessex against the Vikings and laid the foundations for a unified English kingdom. Known for his reforms, learning, and establishment of law codes.
- Edward the Elder, from 899 to 924. Son of Alfred the Great. Continued his father's work of consolidating power and expanding his territory.
- Aelfward is the son of Edward the Elder, and is King for 16 days in 924; he died at the age of 23.
- Aethalstan is the son of Edward the Elder and is king of the Anglo-Saxons from 924 to 927, and King of the English from 927 to 939.
- Edmund the magnificent is king from 939 to 946. He is illed at the age of 25. Son of Edward the Elder. Faced challenges from Viking incursions and internal rebellions.
- Eadred is the son of Edward the Elder. He is king from 946 to 955 and dies aged 32. Brother of Edmund I. Continued efforts to consolidate royal authority.
- Eadwig is the son of Edmund I from 955 to 959, and dies aged 19. Nephew of Eadred. His reign was marked by conflict with the Church and powerful nobles.
- Edgar the peaceful is the son of Edmund I from 959 to 975 and dies aged 31.
- Edward the Martyr is the son of Edgar the peaceful from 975 to 978 and is murdered at Corfe Castle aged 16.
- Aethelred the Unready is the son of Edgar the peaceful from 978 to 1013, and dies in LOndon aged 48.
- Sweyn Forkbeard of the House of Denmark claims the throne for 43 days in 1013. He is son of Harold Bluetooth.
- Aethelred the Unready restores the throne for the House of Wessex from 1014 to 1016 until his death aged 48
- Edmund Ironside, the son of Aethelred the Unready is in power for 222 days in 1016, and dies aged 26 at Glastonbury.
- Cnut the Great restores the throne for the House of Denmark for 19 years until 1035 at his death aged 40. He was son of Sweyn Forkbeard.
- Harold Harefoot of the House of Denmark rules for over 4 years until 1040, dieing aged 24. He is son of Cnut the Great
- Harthacnut rules from 1040 to 1042. He dies aged 24. He is son of Cnut the Great
- Edward the Confessor restores the throne for the House of Wessex in 1042 until 1066. He is son of Aethelred the Unready until his death aged 63.
- Harold Godwinson the house of Godwin rules in 1066, the son of Godin of Essex. He dies in the Battle of Hastings aged 42
- In 1066, the capital is removed from Winchester to London by William the Conqueror. He is the sone of Robert the Magnificent, and rules until 1087.
- William Rufus son of William the Conqueror and Matilda rules from 1087 to 1100. He was shot with an arrow at 44 and died.
- Henry Beauclerc, aka Henry I, the son of William the Conqueror and Matilda rules from 1100 to 1135.
- Stephen of Blois, of the House of Blois, rules from 1135 to 1154.
