I found a mention in 1896 of William Butlin, my GG Uncle. Also appearing is
his wife Mrs Emily Jane Butlin, formerly Emily Jane Vickerstaff-Foden.
William died on 13 Aug 1897 and it looks like Emily Jane took over the pub.
She subsequently married Charles Pye in 1905 and was living with him at the
pub, along with her children by William as shown in the 1911 census and also
shown on your web site. ***
William Arthur Butlin appears to have taken over running the Lord Gough from
Charles Pye from around 1925 until at least 1938. ***
Maybe this information will help you add detail to the web site. The Lord
Gough is the second involvement my family has had with pubs that I have been
able to find. The other was the
Black Swan, 7 Ryders Court, Soho, which was home of my GGG Grandfather
William Butlin until his death in 1835. He was the Grandfather of the
William who kept the Lord Gough in 1896. ***
