"John Pavitt II was born in May 1794 in Stanford Rivers and died 15th April 1865 in Akaroa, New Zealand. He married Sarah Mumford on 17th May 1819, who was born 1799 and died 4th October 1823 and on 15th June 1825 he married Elizabeth Mumford, who was born in 1804 and died 23rd September 1893 in Akaroa, New Zealand
John Pavitt II was licensee of the White Bear in 1819 when he married Sarah Mumford. He gave up the public house in 1826 and turned to farming at Theydon Garnon. The 1841 Census locates him at Jacksons Farm. This was then part of the Hill Farm complex but does not remain today. John and Elizabeth produced there the numerous progeny who were to accompany them on the Monarch from Gravesend to New Zealand. John Pavitt III was born 13th August 1822 at the White Bear and married Emma Smith, daughter of John Smith, a Farmer. They were my great grandparents and had 21 children, my grandmother, Edith Emma being the last. This John Pavitt III was the only one not to go to New Zealand with his father and step-mother."
