My father and mother owned the British Empire in Barking Road, Plaistow. Frank and Florrie Hagon. My father was in India and my mother was running the pub. It got a direct hit in 1941 my mother was giving a party to a load of customers going to war. When a bomb destroyed the pub killing all except my mother and the barmaid. If youve got any pictures of the British Empire, or other information I would be very grateful. It was a Taylor Walkers house, where we had a funny license and could open at 4 oclock in the morning for the stevedores and duckies. They were only licensed to sell wine and beer, and there were five bars. When we closed my father would squeegee the beer and the sawdust out into the street. **
