I have just found my father, Percy F Calcutt on your pub website. The
Jolly Cricketers, Nevendon, Basildon, Essex was built in 1927. My father
became tenant on 22.10.1936 and remained so until retiring on 11.3.1975,
aged 78. After that the pub went under management and downhill as well.
Now I understand it has been demolished. Officials met in the saloon bar
in 1947 to discuss the development of Basildon New Town. From the 1960s
when I worked there, it did a roaring trade particularly lunchtime from
the factory site. ***
