The pub stayed in the same family from at least 1841 when William Wingfield is on the census as being the publican, to at least 1933, when his great grandson Richard James Hasler is recorded in Kelly's directory as being the publican.
The pub passed from William Wingfield to his son-in-law George Clements (married to William's daughter Martha Wingfield). George Smith is the next recorded publican. He is the son of Charles Smith & Susannah Wingfield (also a daughter of William). George's widow, Emily, took over the pub after his death.
In 1914, Richard Smith, brother of George Smith, is the publican. Then in 1917 it is Sarah Ann Hasler (nee Smith, sister of George & Richard)
I'm not sure how William Hasler, who is recorded as the next publican, fits in, it's possible he is Sarah's son or her brother -in-law . In 1933, Richard James Hasler is there, and I know that he is definitely the son of Sarah Ann Hasler.

This private residence was the Chequers up until the late 1940's/early 1950's when Harlow New Town was developed. The Chequers then moved to a new building next door and has recently been renamed Mr Q's.
