I owned The Shades,
Bishop Stortford (a Ben Trumans house); The Prince of Wales. in Mountnessing
(A Ridley pub); I bought and put managers in
The Bird in Hand, at Earls Colne.
And the Globe in the
Raynesford Road, Chelmsford. Bernie Inns bought the pub from me. In later
years I sold up everything and bought a wine bar in Upper Street, Islington,
Marsdens Wine Lodge, A free vintner wine bar dating back 500 years we had no
license but had a royal charter, from Queen Anne. We could open all day &
night and the police could not interfere , but as law-abiding citizens we
shut the doors at 11 o'clock, but let the customers stay, closing usually
about 1 o'clock in the morning. The Winebar was used by many many famous
television and film personalities as regular customers. **
