My dad and mum were resident managers in 1940, maybe earlier. Their names were Edward John Mair and Alice Edith Mair (Know as Ted and Alice); the card I still have says Ted and Alice welcome you. I lived there with them until my mum died in 1954. Dad and I moved to the Golden Lion in Dean Street, Soho W1. any historical facts (apart from the ghost we had there) would be of great interest. ***

I remember Johnny Dicks, dad took over from him. We also had a restaurant there, and my mum (and staff) did about 70 -100 lunches a day. We also had entertainment in the evening, my parents were former members of ENSA and they used to sing once in awhile and their song was always Marcheta, followed by my dad serenading my mum with the Indian love lyrics. He, (dad) was born in 1890 and my mum 1895, both my sisters were married and out of the house when I was born, so considerable difference in our ages. I used to have the whole top floor 7 rooms to play in. there was also the most glorious curved wooden railing going from the office attached to the lounge bar all the way upstairs I think it was mahogany; I remember Flo the housekeeper polishing it till it shone and yelling at me when I used to slide own it. ***
