The Eagle, Kelvedon Common - circa 1910
Kindly provided by Anna Gooding
The Eagle at Kelvedon Hatch taken in 1909/10. The large gentleman standing to the right of the door is George Palmer my g-grandfather. He took on the pub in that year, having retired as a farmer from Ely where he had farmed 300 acres there until 1900, and later Birdbrook where they farmed a few more years at Bailey Hill.
In the door in the apron is his youngest son Albert, the females are probably his daughters Elizabeth and Bertha. He died at Halstead in 1910, so only held the licence for a year. My grandfather; George's son Robert, also farmed at Colemans at Finchingfield pre war, my Dad was born there in 1918.

I am a grandson of Mark Moss who ran the Eagle in the 1930’s. Mark was born
on 11/3/1880 at Colne Engaine, Essex. He lived at the Eagle with his wife
Blanche (my Grandmother) and their six children (3 boys, 3 girls). I know
their first child Clara May used to work as a barmaid there. **
Mark and all his family emigrated to Perth Western Australia between 1948 –
1950. Mark, Blanche, Clara May, Muriel (my mother) and I left England on
17/3/1950 arriving 8th April 1950. Mark died in 1972 (92 years) and Blanche
in 1979 (99 years). **
