I believe that John Cross was the brother of my 3xGt Grandmother Martha
Cross. He took over The Chequers in 1814 and he died in 1846 when his wife
Ann took over. She died in 1861. I'm not sure who precisely Mary Hayward
(1862 Post Office) was, but she was connected to the Cross family. Lucinda
Hayward (1867 Post Office) was the daughter of John and Ann Cross (see 1841
Census). Also, William Jarvis in 1874 & 1878 was the nephew of Ann Cross,
see the 1851 Census. *
