A former coaching inn near the London to Cambridge Roman road, the Black Lion has been traced as far back as 1397 and is believed to stand on the site of the old Great Hall, with beams from the Hall being used in the construction of the inn. The pond outside was once used by the coach horses for their drinking water.
When the wall between the Public and Lounge bars was removed, some old, gold coins were discovered.
The old hay loft is reputedly haunted by the ghost of a Roundhead officer.
The above was supplied by Brian Day.
