One of my wife's ancestors (John Sammes) operated the Two Brewers pub in Marden Ash, High Ongar, Essex, in 1841. It was John and Sarah Sammes daughter, Sarah Emma Sammes, who married George Frost Joy, who was running the pub in 1851. (John Sammes died on 26 January 1858, aged 83).

George Joy died on October 14, 1856 aged 48. From the 1861 census you show the Two Brewers being run by his widow Sarah Emma (Sammes) Joy. She died on 11 June 1892, aged 81. ***
