My research shows that Stephen Mizon was the Blacksmith that lived beside
and possibly behind Abraham Wright's Carpenters
Arms. The 1851 & 1861 census' all have Stephen Mizon as 2 or 3 address
numbers along from Abraham Wright. Stephen will undoubtedly be related to
Abraham's wife, Rebecca (Mizon). *
On the 1861 census, Abraham is no longer shown as the owner of the
Carpenters Arms but Stephen is stated as a blacksmith and also the owner of
a beer house, which is probably the old Carpenters Arms in terms of
patronage, since Abraham at 68 years is advancing in age and evidently given
it away. Rebecca died between 1851 and 1861 and I wondered whether she may
have owned or inherited the premises and Stephen inherited it from her at
her death. *
By 1871 Abraham is dead and Stephen is running the show; and the pub is
known as the Three Horseshoes in Water Lane. *
