Herts and Essex Observer. 25 January 1957
An Old Public House. Customers at the Three Horseshoes, Debden Green drink their beer in the same surroundings as their ancestors did over 100 years ago. The Tap room with its low ceiling, contains two tables at least 100 years old, each with a bench and high-backed wooden seats.
A well known figure in the village was Mrs Mary Anne Bass, who died last week, and who has lived at the Three Horseshoes for 73 years. Her son, Mr Ernest Bass, and his wife now carry on the pub.
They told me that Mrs Bass used to speak of the days when the tap room was full of customers and the road outside was almost congested with horses and carts.
