Golden Crane, Cranham 2001

March 2001

Taken by Tony Fox who informs:

"This pub was opened in 1958 as part of a rather large, planned housing estate. It is believed that the pub name is unique in England. In 1768 Morant wrote that he thought that the placename, Cranham, was derived from Crane - ham (i.e., the home of cranes, an Essex word for the heron and other long-legged wading birds). Morant was wrong, but probably the pub was named for this reason."
