Railway Tavern, Lexden Road, Colchester

From 1843 it was named the Railway Tavern, coincidental with the arrival of the railway to Colchester, but it was not the only one by this name (The Railway Tavern in Magdalen Street was probably opened soon after the GER took over the Tendring Hundred Railway Company’s line, in 1867, which included St Botolphs Station)

The Railway Tavern, Mile End Road was known as the Railway Hotel, from 1898, and it became the Colchester Arms in 1963. It was demolished in 1972 to make way for a new roundabout.
