Dolphin, Hythe Street/Hythe Hill, Colchester 1887

Hythe Hill and the Dolphin in 1887

Kindly provided by Jess Jephcott

The earliest mention found is from Michaelmas 1757, when William Summersum informed Gentlemen, Farmers and others' that he had removed from 'the Dolphin in the Hyth parish to the White Swan in the same parish.' It first appears in the alehouse recognisances of 1764 and then through to 1819, when the trail continues through trade directories.  ***
