Along with another relation of mine, we are trying to trace our family history. My surname is MOORE. A number of years ago, an uncle of mine, sadly no longer with us, mentioned to me that several generations earlier, our family 'had' the Haw Bush. Unfortunately we have not found anything as yet to substantiate this. Other related family surnames which could be 'contenders' in our quest, are HAWKINS, LUCAS, or NEAT. The Hawkins side of the family certainly lived in Little Heath, indeed one member at least is shown as being born at "Dog Kennells, Little Heath, Great Ilford" in 1856.  ***

Chelmsford Chronicle. 17 February 1939
Mr Edward Horace Hollingshead of the Haw Bush, Little Heath, was granted a full licence for the Haw Bush, which at present has a beer and wine on-licence. There was no opposition, and the licence was granted.

My parents John and Bernadette Burke were the publicans of The Lorne Arms, Walthamstow in the late 60s to 1969. They were publicans for Charringtons for over 20 years.
In 1969 they opened a new pub, The Greyhound on Chingford Hall Estate which was recently demolished. Following the Greyhound they went to The Haw Bush in Barley Lane, Chadwell Heath from 1971 to 1981, this pub has now been made into flats. *
