"Alfred Parker, who had the pub built, was my great-grandfather. He was born in 1861 and died in December 1904 (the family story is that he died from injuries suffered while trying to throw a drunk out of the pub). Abigail Jane Parker was his wife who took over the business when she was widowed. She was born in 1864 and died in 1921 (these dates can be seen on Alfred Parker's gravestone in Burnham-on-Crouch Cemetery). On her death, the pub passed to their second son Jim (the eldest son having emigrated to Australia). I thought he kept it on until after the war, maybe up 'til the 1950s when he sold it to Ind Coop."
