Barking pub history index
A listing of historical public houses, Taverns, Inns, Beer Houses and Hotels in Essex.
Address formerly given as 98 Fisher Street and 30 Fisher Street. This pub was rebuilt in 1901 after being badly damaged by an explosion at a nearby factory. By 1911, the address is at 96 Abbey Road Barking. The address is listed as Fisher Street up to 1910, as 98 Fisher Street in 1891, and as 96 Abbey Road in 1911. *+
The picture is of the Fishing Smack pre 1899 before the
boiler explosion. The man in the bowler hat is the landlord, Henry Seabrook.
I have been told that one of the three ladies in the window above is his
wife, and the other two her sisters. One of the little boys on the left is
my grandfather, James G Blyth.
The photograph was provided by my father, James E R Blyth, to a book called
'Barking 100 years ago' by Herbert Hope Lockwood, published privately by the
author in 1990. ***
